What does outreach through Readers' Advisory look like at a large university? Why is Readers' Advisory important for college students? Reading for pleasure is important beyond high school, yet it is not emphasized in higher education. By reaching out to students through reading for fun, library staff can help reduce library anxiety and encourage engagement with the library. University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Access and Information Services staff will discuss their experiences promoting reading for pleasure. It all began with the From Our Collections exhibit, consisting of themed displays that grew into outreach projects. For example, we experimented with small pop-up libraries of fun reading materials in unexpected locations on campus. We also engaged with students online through a book matchmaking service and a summer reading challenge. We will share what we've learned, and inspire you to create a culture of outreach through fun reading at your library.
