Minnesota History Day is part of a nationally-recognized program that challenges students in grades 6-12 with an applied research project. Students pick a research topic and present their findings in the form of research papers, exhibits, documentaries, performances or websites. Approximately 25,000 students participate in Minnesota History Day. Research is a vital component of the project and students must learn to search beyond Google to find relevant primary and secondary sources. In order to build information literacy, History Day brings over 5,000 students into libraries annually. We work to deepen student engagement by broadening their research skills and finding quality sources for their projects. This session will discuss how History Day is taught in the classroom, the different types of library outreach we do, and how you may be able to participate and help History Day students that come into your library!
